Bloody Mary's Tours in New Orleans, Louisiana

Visitors who have even a fleeting interest in Voodoo and its connection to the city of New Orleans or in the paranormal aspects of the city should consider participating in a tour conducted by the woman who calls herself Bloody Mary, a self-ordained Voodoo queen, psychic, and Shaman who claims to come from the bloodline of Queen Mary I, the British queen who was also dubbed Bloody Mary.

Bloody Mary’s company offers a plethora of tours that aren’t your usual New Orleans excursions. Rather, they take visitors to notable Voodoo locations, cemeteries, and other occult destinations, and mix it all up with plenty of interesting New Orleans history. The tours began in 1970 and Mary promises to “delve deep into the swamps and bayous of our pre-historic existence and explore the haunted history of New Orleans.” Interested visitors may sign up for regularly scheduled walking tours or request a custom tour designed to cater to their specific interests.

Sample tours include the Moonlight Graveyard Tour, which features visits to two cemeteries and a chance to try out Mary’s methods of paranormal investigation; the Voodoo Cemetery Tour, where guests can visit the oldest cemetery in the city, learn about the behind-the-scenes practice of voodoo in The Big Easy, and even make a voodoo doll; and Tour of the Undead, which meets in a haunted pub and takes participants to an 1800s-era vampire lair and provides stories and lectures about voodoo and ghosts.

There’s also Cities of the Dead, a tour of three different local cemeteries; the Haunted Pub Crawl, a recent addition for those 21 and over that offers the chance to visit local pubs that are known to be sites of paranormal activity; and Magical Mystery Tour, an insightful look into the mysteries of voodoo.

Guests can also sign up for individual voodoo doll making workshops (sans the walking tour), a paranormal and psychic reading “spiritual adventure”, a Saints and Sinners Tour, which visits churches and graveyards; a Ghost Town tour that features the abandoned post-Katrina neighborhoods within the city; and a Haunted Dinner Tour, which includes wining and dining in one of New Orleans’ many haunted restaurants. Couples can even schedule a Haunted Honeymoon Night Out, where they can re-tie the knot voodoo style, explore “love magic”, and hear stories of love lasting beyond the grave.

Bloody Mary will also come to your location and help throw a voodoo-style ball, ghost party, psychic party, Mardi Gras costumed get-together, or a “bordello ball.” Bloody Mary and her associates even perform weddings. (Check out her website for details about the legality of the weddings, obtaining a marriage license in Louisiana, etc.)

Tour schedules vary and some are organized by appointment only. The tour company eagerly welcomes group reservations. Prices vary as well and quotes are available by calling the hotline listed on Bloody Mary’s website or tour brochures, which are readily available around the city.
