Playing a round or two of golf in New Orleans can be a true pleasure. When to Play

Most New Orleans golf courses are open year round thanks to the subtropical climate that keeps the city warm throughout most of the year. Truly, however, the best times of the year to enjoy the game are during the spring and the fall. During these seasons, the weather in New Orleans is at its best. The daytime temperatures are often in the 60s or 70s and the humidity isn’t as stifling as it might be during the summer, when the temperatures can easily climb into the 90s with 100 percent humidity.

Popular Courses

There are numerous golf courses in the New Orleans area and they are lush and green, especially in the cooler weather. The landscape around the courses is often breathtaking and you’ll find that it’s a pleasure to play amidst the cypress swamps and other native flora. Here’s a list of some of the most notable courses in the area.

?    Tournament Players Club of Louisiana – Voted the 4th Best Upscale Public Golf Course by Golf Digest magazine, TPC Louisiana is situated on 250 acres across the river from the city. Designed by Pete Dye, it is often the host course for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Instruction is available and there’s a wonderful golf shop on site, too.

?    Audubon Park Golf Course – This par 62, 18-hole municipal course opened in 2002 and is managed by the nearby Audubon Nature Institute. The landscape is stunning and the course is suitable for a variety of levels of golfers.

?    English Turn Golf and Country Club – This is a par 72 private course designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1988. Water comes into play on every hole, making it a challenge even for experienced players. It has also hosted the Zurich Classic.

?    Money Hill Golf and Country Club – Situated in a simply stunning setting, the Money Hill course features lots of changes in elevation, a number of water features, and plenty more to challenge the golfer, no matter what level. This is a private course.

?    Brechtel Park Golf Course – Built in the 1960s but still a favorite with locals, Brechtel Park is an 18-hole, par 72 municipal course. There are 3 sets of tee boxes here so anyone can play, even the novice. Green fees are very affordable.

?    Lakewood Golf Club – This 18-hole, par 72 course is open to the public. It features 4 sets of tees and was designed by Robert B. Harris in 1961. It has recently been renovated to the tune of $9 million. A luxury hotel and condominiums will be springing up around the course in the next few years so this will be a great locale for golfers on holiday in New Orleans.
