Kites Tails and Toys in New Orleans
This is a little Kite / Toy store that is pretty close to the Mississippi River area of the French Quarter. They sell all kinds of different toys, t-shirts, kites, puppets, and basically any kind of specialty toy you could think of - anything that's a toy but not your standard Toys R' Us thing.
The French Quarter is filled with little toy stores like this, and this is one of the bigger ones - which isn't saying much, because they're all pretty cramped. They had a pretty good selection of random stuff, though, so I doubt your kids will be disappointed if they're looking for a unique toy to take back from a vacation here.

You can see their web site online here, and they've got an even bigger online selection to order from that you can have shipped straight to you if you're not coming to New Orleans any time soon. My favorite was the Gatling rubber band gun, a $350 wooden rubber band machine gun.
