The Riverwalk is a big, indoor mall that in New Orleans that is located along the Mississippi River. It's pretty much like a regular mall, but a little more "touristy" with a lot of little booth things where you can buy all the standard stuff like T-shirts and postcards. It's also got a lot of different boats that come by and dock there, and you can eat in a decent food court with a nice view of the Mississippi.

The Riverwalk is up and running after the hurricanes, but a few of the stores are not yet reopened. They've got a lot of the standard mall stores without any of the bigger "anchors" - so they have the GAP, Banana Republic, etc. but nothing huge like a Dillards. There are also a lot of little local "flavor" stores - there's one that sells New Orleans spices, and a little magic shop with a magician who will show you tricks and sell you the basics such as books, scarves, wands and other implements of prestidigitation.

The food court is pretty nice, with a good sushi restaurant and a Mexican place that I like - we're talking about $8-12 price range. It faces the Mississippi, and you can go eat outdoors if you want on a little patio. There is also a bar-type food court in the downstairs area that has a place you can get drinks, and you can get alcohol at several of the restaurants if you're so inclined.
Outside the Riverwalk, there are a bunch of docking areas for various boats, and you can book a short trip on them from a little ticket booth out there and take a water tour of the area. You can also see random little industrial boats that park there, along with cruise ships of various kinds.

The St. Charles, a little boat that was out there.
The Dee White, a riverboat that happened to be parked there when I went by.

The Riverwalk is close to a lot of other tourist locations, the Aquarium of the Americas being a big one, and it's also got better food - so keep it in mind for that even if you don't really want to go shopping. If you want to pick up some random, alligator related piece of tourist memorabilia, it's also the place for you, or if you just want to see a lot of little unique shops.
