Southern Repertory Theater in New Orleans
The Southern Repertory Theater is a theater established for the purpose of promoting plays by Southern playwrights. It's located in Canal Place, which is a mall in downtown New Orleans. They have a regularly rotating set of plays by season, and usually do about 5-10 a season. They put them on Thursday through Saturday, with ticket prices varying depending on the day - from $20 to $26, $30 if you want to go on a play's opening night. They do give senior and student discounts, however, and local students can go to student matinees if their teachers schedule a trip.
New Orleans residents can also try out for roles in the various plays if they've been bitten by the acting bug. It's a mostly volunteer-supported organization, and supporters perform most of the jobs to help keep the theater running. If you're coming through New Orleans and want to see a play with a Southern flavor, you should try spending an evening at the Southern Rep.

It's really not that hard to find. It's inside Canal Place, which is a big shopping mall in downtown New Orleans. Go in there, go to the third floor, and it is to your right when you're coming up the escalators, across from a regular movie theater. They have a web site you can go to here that will show you all the plays currently on their schedule and gives you a little more information about the theatre itself.
